Why learn Chinese?

Students will continue to develop their competence in the four language skills - listening, speaking, reading and writing. Chinese is the world’s most widely spoken language and its increasing influence in the world has never been stronger in business and trade.

Te kura aims to teach students:

  • to understand and communicate with Chinese speakers
  • to speak and write precisely
  • to think laterally
  • to overcome difficulties
  • to adopt a disciplined approach to learning
  • to meet intellectual challenges.

Students develop their competence using the four language skills and in a wide range of situations. The Chinese curriculum is divided into 8 levels and Levels 3 - 4 are covered in Year 10.

The course provides a very sound preparation for NCEA Level 1 Chinese.
