King's Coronation Tree Planting

Laura-Jean Peawini, Assistant Principal —

Head Prefect, Bethany Crossan, Head of Whanaungatanga, Angela Reupena and Principal, Christine O'Neill planted an Akeake tree as part of New Zealand's gift to mark the King's special day.

It was lovely to have Principal, Christine O'Neill back from leave to take part in planting the Akeake with Bethany and Angela this week.  The tree is marked by a plaque and will grow for years to come on the east side of our kura.

Tens of thousands of native trees have been planted across Aotearoa this week to commemorate the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III on Saturday 6 May 2023.

Thank you to the Christchurch City Council who provided trees to schools across Christchurch to enable students to join in planting a tree to commemorate the event.

The Visits and Ceremonial Office of the Department of Internal Affairs will be provided with the details of all tree plantings nationwide in order to create a webpage following the events in which members of the public could find the King's trees for years to come and provide a lasting reminder of the monarchy here in New Zealand.
