Surfing 2020
We have been taking part for 20 years, in the inter school scholastic competition at New Brighton while at the same time encouraging students who are keen to learn to surf to gain instruction from Professional Surf Coaching, based in Sumner.
The photograph above shows some of the 43 students who learned to surf this year. Over time they can join the inter school team which travels by school van to the venue, to the right of the pier, at New Brighton, Term 1 and Term 4, on Wednesdays.
Amelie Wink, Year 10, was part of the Canterbury team which competed in the National Scholastic Surfing Championship inKaikoura this year.
Amelie Wink competed up an age division in the U18's where she made it into the final.
The Canterbury team had to overcome a fierce battle with other regions with the results of the last day making the difference. Canterbury was crowned the National Scholastic Surfing Champions for just the second time Canterbury in 32 years.
