A Day At The Willows

Petra Jack, Sports Prefect —

Last Thursday the CGHS 1st XI Cricket team had the honour of playing at The Willows cricket ground. Last year we were the first women to play at the Willows and this year we were lucky to be invited back.

On Thursday we took on St Hilda's Collegiate School 1st XI Cricket team from Dunedin in a 40 over match. We opened with fielding and bowling them out for 69 runs in under 20 overs, then batted and got the runs we needed in under 20 overs. This means we won by 9 wickets. We then went on to play a 20/20 game to practice for our upcoming qualifying tournament and won this game as well.

Overall, it was a very enjoyable and successful day; Mike Dormer and the Willows club did a great job organising the day and we had many family members, friends and teachers come along to support us. On Wednesday/Thursday 28/29 October, our team is playing at Hagley Park in the qualifying tournament to select the team from our region to attend the National tournament in December.
