Library News
"The Murder Mystery" book week in the library was a lot of fun.
Our wonderful librarians made displays and decorations around the library, thank you, Hannah Ahmed and Irushi Kariyawasam Haputanthrige, Meg Buckler and Swali Ranjan (head librarians), for the effort and extra time you contributed for the book week events.
The library hosted a booklet quiz, a guess the blurred book competition and a staff game (The murder mystery challenge). The murder mystery challenge got the most attention with posts on Instagram and the interviews with the suspects especially were the talk of the week. “The Murder Mystery” movie drew a huge crowd, and students enjoyed the show in the PAC.
The guess of the 9 blurred book covers was quite tricky, and students tried to
answer it correctly. (1st) Zhianne Yu and Matisse Foster got 7 out of 9 books correct, (2nd) Hattie Roach got 5 out of 9 books correct, (3rd) Ayana Cooke, Shanaiah Janine Ardiente, Tilly Joyce, Siale Kula, and Rida Jauwad got 3 out of 9 books correct.
The staff game (the Murder Mystery Challenge) winners are Nithu Hetti Arachchige Dona (1st), Gwyneth Ah Mu (2nd), and Dorothy Nguyen, Avneet Jhutty and Kariba Thapa (3rd). Runners-up, were Nidhi Duna, Jaymie Garcia, Michelle Walker and Ang O’Bell. From staff participation, Mrs. Hayley Burson solved the murder mystery challenge.
We were excited to have a dress up competition this year, with students and staff participating. Students and staff came along dressed up in their favourite book characters during lunch time, where we had a dress up parade led by our student librarians through the photobooth and crime scene.
The categories were - "Classic Books" (e.g., Pride and Prejudice) and "Characters Based on Murder Mysteries" (e.g., John Wick, Sherlock Holmes, James Bond, Hercule Poirot). The result of our lovely staff was (1st Place) Mrs. Helen Armstrong and Monique Petersen (Sense and Sensibility) and (2nd place) Mrs. Hayley Burson (Velma from Scooby Doo). The English Department won the department competition. Ka pai! It was difficult to decide the winners among them.
Student dress up winners were (1st) Belinda Liu, (2nd) Rachel Ma and (3rd) Apollo Ferry and Iris Stokes . A special award went to Issy Heslop who dressed up as a "thelma the unicorn"(book character) and got lots of attention at school.
Ngā mihi maioha koutou!!
Spring has arrived
Happy spring everyone!!
From September to November, in spring, Aotearoa New Zealand bursts with new life and colours. The season is changing slowly from clear freezing nights to hot spring days. Daffodils and dandelions are waving their hands to wish blessings. The sky is blooming with new blue, colourful flowers are shining like stars on earth and drags people’s dejected mind towards the ultimate ocean of beauty. Ka puāwai ngā kōwhai he tohu tēnā kua aroaromahana. (When the kōwhai is in flower it's a sign that it's spring). Our wonderful librarians made a spring display to share beauties of nature in the library.
