Painting and Printmaking - Level 2

Qualification: NCEA Level 2

Entry requirements: NCEA Art Level 1. Exceptions may be made only in consultation with the HOD Art.

Painting and Printmaking Year 12 provides the entry requirement for Year 13 Painting and Printmaking.

Content/Skills: The aim of the course is to provide ākonga with a thorough grounding in painting and printmaking practices. Ākonga will be taught to understand the principles underlying the making of paintings and prints. They will develop knowledge of current processes, procedures, materials and techniques. This will involve the application of research skills and the ability to generate and develop ideas in a systematic way through to finished artworks.

The course prepares ākonga for the first stages of a career in many related Visual Arts careers (Architecture, Advertising, Illustration, Film, Interior or Graphic Design, Digital Photography).

Stationery cost will range from: $30.00 - $50.00 depending on what equipment a student may already have.

Please be aware that this course has associated costs. By selecting this course you will be requested to make contributions connected to its delivery. These costs for specialist art materials are: $95.00.

Each ākonga will be provided with access to Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign) and print credit for completed work for the formative and summative assessments. For all extra printing students will need to purchase print credit

1 Internal Achievement Standard in Painting worth 4 credits

1 Internal Achievement Standard in Printmaking worth 4 credits

1 External Achievement Standard Painting or Printmaking worth 12 credits
