Year 13 Health Classes Are Sponsoring A New Zealand Child
The year 13 health classes have been analysing poverty in their health lessons, working towards an internal standard and an external standard.
The context for the internal standard is Child Poverty in New Zealand. It is surprising that in a country of such opportunity and beauty, poverty touches many of our citizens and of course impacts on the lives of our children.
Part of the analysis is identifying the impact of poverty on a child’s life and what the major causes are. Ultimately the students are challenged to find solutions to eliminate or minimise these causes.
One strategy they have discovered to reduce the impact of poverty on the life of a child, is Variety Kiwi Kid Sponsorship. The classes have become sponsors of 13 year old Shiloh. This will result in Shiloh having access to basics that she would otherwise go without, such as warm clothing, shoes, school stationery, bedding and/or a properly fitting uniform.
Our students are committed to providing for Shiloh for the next 6 months through donations and fundraising. They will hand over their ongoing commitment for several years of sponsorship to our future Year 13 Health classes.
Our 44 Health students and Ms Otway, are very excited about beginning this relationship with Shiloh and invite you to consider investigating the programme yourself through visiting the Variety website here.
