Fashion Technology - Level 3

Qualification: NCEA Level 3

Entry requirements: Open entry, but it is recommended that ākonga have at least 10 credits at Level 1 or Level 2 Fashion Technology. If you have not studied Fashion Technology before you should have a discussion with the HOD.

Content/Skills: This course is based on product development with a focus on textiles and garment construction. Ākonga will develop portfolios of their design work and technological practice. They will develop skills in fashion drawing, pattern drafting, garment construction and textiles based crafts such as screen printing, appliqué and embroidery. Additional workshops will allow after school learning and support.

Field Trips: Tailored to the context students work within.

Course Costs: Please be aware that this course has a 'take home' component. By selecting this course you are agreeing to meet full costs for materials that are required. These costs are $80.00 which covers the cost of materials required to draft and produce a garment toile, fabric samples, tracing paper, interfacing, fabric decorating materials such as paint, embroidery thread and beads. Ākonga will need to purchase their own fabric for at least one garment.

Assessment:

2 Internal Achievement standards worth 12 Credits

1 External Achievement standard worth 4 Credits (optional)

Careers/tertiary study with a design/problem solving focus such as a Fashion Designer, Interior Designer, Event Management, CAD Specialist, Fashion/Personal Stylist, Costume Designer, Wardrobe Manager, Product Designer, Fashion Merchandiser, Production, Fashion Buyer, Fashion Illustrator, Textiles Designer, Fashion Sales Representative, Pattern Maker, Fashion Writer/Photographer.
