Eugenia Cheng Presentation
Mathematician, writer and concert pianist on a mission to rid the world of maths phobia!
On Monday the Mathematics department took a group of Year 10 students to
a presentation by Eugenia Cheng. She is a Mathematician, writer and concert pianist on a mission to rid the
world of maths phobia. Eugenia is currently scientist-in-residence at the School of the Art
Institute of Chicago and her media appearances have included the Late Show with
Stephen Colbert. Eugenia was an early pioneer of maths on YouTube and her
videos have been viewed around 15 million times to date.
It was an interesting presentation where we looked at Mathematics in the world. She showed us how Bach music can be turned into a pie. Eugenia also talked about the Mathematics in juggling and plaiting your hair. Her presentation has also inspired us all to want to cook Battenberg cakes.
The Mathematics Department has donated her latest book, How to Bake Pi, to our school library if you would like to read it.
