Senior Prizegiving

This year senior prizegiving was on 10 December at CBHS.

It was a pleasantly cool evening and we were treated to an impressive range of musical items from Cantrices and the Orchestra.

 As well as the prizes for each year level, we awarded a range of special awards in recognition of excellence.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH GOLD AWARDS:

The following students had over their time at high school met all the requirements for the Duke of Edinburgh International Gold Award:-

The next awards were for a group of students who, before they have completed their secondary education, have represented New Zealand in international sporting competition.

For this we awarded them high praise and New Zealand Colours. The students and their respective sports are:

THE BALLANTYNE’S TROPHY FOR LEADERSHIP FOR THE YEAR 11 STUDENT WHO HAS MOST WORTHILY UPHELD THE TRADITIONS OF THE SCHOOL AND HAS BEEN FULLY INVOLVED IN THE WIDER LIFE OF THE SCHOOL

THE MISS TYNDALL MEMORIAL PRIZE FOR THE YEAR 12 STUDENT WHO HAS MOST WORTHILY UPHELD THE TRADITION OF THE SCHOOL IN SCHOLARSHIP, LEADERSHIP AND SPORT AND EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

The Miss Tyndall Memorial Prize for 2018 was awarded to:- Helen O’Connor

THE OLIVE CALLOWAY SPECIAL PRIZE FOR SERVICE BY A SENIOR STUDENT

Mrs June Burns has donated a prize in memory of her aunt, Miss Olive Calloway, who was a student of our school from 1926-1930. Olive Calloway worked voluntarily for many years in the community. The prize was to recognise service by a senior student.

THE JOAN BULL MEMORIAL AWARD

This prize was awarded to a Y13 student who has been a loyal and stalwart member of the school and who will be continuing her education in the tertiary field.

The Joan Bull Memorial Award for 2018 went to: - Sarah Bealing

THE PAM NEILL MEMORIAL AWARD FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE

Awarded for outstanding self-motivated achievement within the community.

The Pam Neill Memorial Award for Community Service for 2018 went to : - Lily Trotter

THE HUGH MCDOUGALL RANKIN EDUCATION TRUST AWARD

The late Hugh McDougall Rankin established this trust to support students of the Sciences in furthering their education to contribute to the technological wealth of New Zealand.

The Hugh McDougall Rankin Education Trust Award went to :- Sophie White

THE AL-ANI MEMORIAL PRIZE

This prize has been donated in memory of Dr Al-Ani, the father of 3 former students. Dr Al-Ani lost his life in the February 2011 earthquake. It is awarded to the Year 13 student who has achieved highly in the field of science, who has consistently displayed positive citizenship and is undertaking tertiary study in the biomedical area.

The Al-Ani Memorial Prize went to:- Shuying Wee

THE CATHERINE PETERS MEMORIAL PRIZE FOR ENTHUSIASM

(for contributing positively to the school community by her enthusiastic attitude)

This prize has been donated by the family of Catherine Peters, a former and much loved student of the school, who died in a tragic accident shortly after leaving the school.

The Catherine Peters Memorial Prize winner for 2018 was :- Sophie White

THE SHANTI NIRANJAN EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP

The award is to acknowledge students who have demonstrated determination, perseverance and courage during their time at school.

The 2018 recipient of the Shanti Niranjan Education Scholarship was:- Ruth Tuivakano

JUDITH ANN SPOONER AWARD

This award is for a student who, in Year 13, have most worthily upheld the traditions of Christchurch Girls' High School in academic excellence and leadership in the school community.

The Judith Ann Spooner Award for 2018 went to:- Jessica Aitken

This award was for a Year 13 student who in some way makes a significant contribution to the life of our school.

 THE PROXIME ACCESSIT 2018

The Proxime came to us from Heaton Intermediate. She is a true academic with natural curiosity and an exemplary work ethic. She is a natural athlete who has competed in many athletics competitions and has been a New Zealand representative in cross-country and a Zonta Award finalist. Calm and poised with a quiet manner she relates well to both peers and adults.

The Proxime Accessit to the Dux of the school for 2018 is: Akeira Worthington

DUX OF THE SCHOOL 2018 AND THE IRENE F MILNES CUP

The Dux came to us from Kirkwood Intermediate. She is an exceptional young woman who embraces intellectual challenge. A natural leader, she has the ability to take people with her. She has the utmost respect of her peers. Multi-talented, honest and genuine she has made an extraordinary contribution to our school.
