String Orchestra

Yuchen Luo —

This year has been another busy year for the Christchurch Girls’ and Boys’ High School Combined String Orchestra.

This is our first year practising in the new auditorium which was great, rehearsals are on Tuesday morning at 7:45 am until around 8:45 am with our conductor Mr Langdon. The string orchestra consists of string players from all year levels and different skill levels.

During the year the String Orchestra has performed in all the music events at CGHS, at St Mary’s Catholic Church and the 2018 Secondary Schools Orchestra Festival. In April we played Archaic Voices by Doug Spata and Shadow Run by George Sweet. In August and the orchestra festival we played Song of the Birds by Pablo Casals and the first 5 movements from Handel Concerti Grossi Op6. A special thanks to our amazing cellist Maia Vivas who gave an impressive solo performances in Song of the Birds and our violin soloists Yuchen Luo in Handel Concerti Grossi.

Thanks to all the students who have participated the String Orchestra this year, everyone has worked extremely hard and have played incredibly well. A huge thank you to our conductor Mr. Langdon for his hard work and taking the String Orchestra. I’m sure it will be another fabulous year for String Orchestra in 2019.
