Canterbury Secondary School Track and Field Championships Preliminaries 2023

Sue Boyd —

A stunning day at Ngā Puna Wai to kick off the competition. Numbers are still down across the region but our kura is definitely building its numbers. We have a team of 28 athletes across most disciplines with a total of 49 entries.

The team looked out for each other, respected each other's individual warm up routines and supported each other as they competed in their respective disciplines. We started at 9am and the last competitor crossed the line at 3.30pm.

It was a wonderful opportunity for our senior students to step into leadership roles by taking warm ups, checking the marshaling times, recording results and organizing relay practices. It was awesome to have parents coming along and share the experience with our team. It made for a very positive experience for all.

From the 31 entries on Tuesday (as 18 are straight finals on Saturday) we have 33 that have qualified to compete on Saturday.

We welcome you to come along on Saturday, visit our tent, make yourself known and help support the team as they vie to be selected for the South Island Championships in Invercargill at the end of this month.
