Aukaha Event
Year 10 Māori students went on a trip to Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha, the University of Canterbury.
On November the 15th, a group of 14 Year 10 Māori students went on a trip to Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha, the University of Canterbury, for an event called Aukaha. This hui was for Year 10 ākonga Māori from various kura across Ōtautahi.
The day began with a mihi whakatau to welcome the ākonga to the campus. Soon after, the ākonga were organised into groups, with students from different kura. After some icebreaker games the groups headed off to mini lectures which covered content from the various colleges at the university. The students were immersed in a learning experience and a Māori environment that left them inspired and informed.
Guiding them throughout the day were the tuākana from UC Māori. The day left a lasting impression on our students and they are so excited about the next kaupapa they get to go to from UC.
