On Friday, Cantrices performed in the annual Canterbury/West Coast regional of The Big Sing.

They performed a set of three pieces, including a Bulgarian folk song, a contemporary piece about hope written in Latin and Sami, and a work by New Zealand composer David Hamilton. The choir has worked incredibly hard over the past two terms and performed well, with their efforts being rewarded with an award for Best Performance of a Contemporary Work. A highlight of the event was the evening Gala concert where Cantrices sang alongside hundreds of participating secondary singers in a mass performance of 'A Te Tarakihi', arranged by Brent Stewart and haka from Ngati Maniopoto. You can hear Cantrices perform this coming weekend at Voices in the Community at The Piano.
