Legacy Project - Interhouse Service Challenge

Kathleen King, Service Prefect —

As a way to encourage service while everyone was at home in level 4, the House Prefects and I held an interhouse service challenge, facilitated via our student and house Instagram pages.

Students were asked to do some form of ‘service’ for the people in their bubble. This could have been anything from mowing the lawns to washing the dishes to helping a sibling with schoolwork. They were required to take a picture of their service in action as proof and send it to their house prefect, earning a point for their house.

Being conscious of the fact this was a very challenging time for everyone, I wanted to run something that was optional and easy, that would lift house spirits (both ‘bubble’ houses and school houses), and that would be simple enough so as not to be another burden in the long list of things clogging everyone’s inboxes. Over 100 students took part, with many racking up multiple points as they sent in several pictures of all the helpful things they were doing in their bubbles.

Congratulations to Harper house; as the champions of this challenge, they’ve added another 50 points to their total for the year. It was great to see so many girls from all six houses getting involved and doing something of service for others, especially on Mother’s Day!
