Kia ora! Assalamuyalaikum! We are celebrating different cultural and religious events in our library at Christchurch Girls’ High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora.

Happy Ramadan

Best wishes for the Ramadan celebration. Ramadan is the most important month of the Muslim Community. They fast for one month to celebrate Ramadan. To celebrate Ramadan, on 24 March 2023, Christchurch Girls’ High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora librarians put up a display of books that represented Muslim Culture and History. To decorate the display, Global Relations put a fabulous poster on the display board, showing their harmony of belongingness to the communities.

Christchurch Girls’ High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora  librarians’ organised a shared lunch event on Monday 27 March. In the event, Head Librarian, Ngarita MacKenzie and Deputies, Jasmine Glennie and Ceiarra Fernando distributed certificates of appreciation and badges to our fabulous student librarians.

They also distributed prizes to the winners of our Woman’s Day poster competition and Christchurch Girls’ High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora Readers Cup competition.

We gave our Muslim student librarians a small snack pack to enjoy later as they could not participate in the shared lunch at the event. Tangata ako ana i te whare, te turanga ki temarae, tau ana (A person who is taught at home, will stand collected on the Marae (meeting house grounds)).
