A Day Spent With The German National Advisor And Founder of the Kiwi Handball Project

Natasha Smith —

Students learning German at Christchurch Girls High School/Te Kura o Hine Waiora have been very busy.

On Friday 2nd July, we had the pleasure of welcoming the German National Advisor of New Zealand to our school – Alexandra Töniges. She also brought along with her Frank Stoltenberg, the founder of the Kiwi Handball project. www.kiwihandball.nz

Alexandra worked with some of the classes on a new project, where schools around New Zealand teaching German, prepare and complete a tote bag. Students then exchange these bags between the nominated schools and include a letter in German.

This begins conversations between schools and students in German and it is a great way to build friendships around New Zealand using the language.

The students loved the activity and especially those who take art, were able to combine their love for art and language in a lesson.
