Kia ora students, staff, families, and caregivers, I’m thrilled to share news about our school garden transformation...

Cleo McLaughlin —

Thanks to the fantastic support from Mitre 10 Mega Papanui.

Last year, I reached out to Mitre 10 Mega Papanui for assistance with our neglected school garden, and they generously helped us purchase top-notch wood for new garden beds. They also took care of delivering the second load of wood to our school, so a massive thanks to everyone from Mitre 10 Mega who contributed to this project; we couldn’t have done it without you!

The school garden now has three new planter boxes to be used for planting this year, and we removed the old, broken greenhouse to open up the area. The school environment group has also joined up with Predator Free Riccarton, placing rat traps around the school to reduce pests in the area.

Another thanks goes to Terence McLaughlin for crafting the planter boxes for us, it isn’t an easy job. Thank you for dedicating time out of your day to complete this project for us.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to hand over to the new 2024 Environment Prefect, Luca Jackson, who I’m sure will do an amazing job continuing with the garden and other environmental areas in the school.

Warm regards,

Cleo McLaughlin (Garden Leader 2023)
