Design and Visual Communications (DVC) / Hoahoa me te Whakawhitiwhiti Whakaaturanga - Level 1

CGHS —

Learn the skill of innovative thinking and creative design. Use the influences of the great Maori and Pakeha architects/designers to design, model and present your own innovative design solutions.

Qualification: NCEA Level 1

Entry requirements: Year 10 Graphics preferred but not essential.

Content/Skills: This course introduces students to Design and Visual Communication. Areas of study include Architectural Design and Product Design. Ākonga will complete 2 design projects that require them to create individual solutions for specific situations. At the completion of the course ākonga will have mastered a variety of informal and formal drawing techniques, modelling and rendering skills as well as computer aided design packages. 

Ākonga will use Maori and other design heritages as inspiration to gain an understanding design and its whakapapa.

Course costs: Please be aware that this course has a ‘take home’ component. By selecting this course you are agreeing to meet full costs for materials that are required. These costs are: $20

In order to provide industry standard learning we use a variety of software.  A contribution towards the costs of licensing this software may be requested.

Grants may be available to eligible students to support with any course costs.

Assessment:

Ākonga select 3 out of 4 achievement standards available (15 credits total) to suit their skills and interests. 

2 Internal Achievement Standards - 10 credits 

2 External Achievement Standards - 10 credits

Where does it lead? NCEA Level 2 DVC, vocational courses, various project management and design career pathways.
