Cross Country

Hayley Burson —

How wonderful it was to be able to run the Christchurch Girls' High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora Cross Country on Thursday morning after a couple of years of disruption due to COVID.

The conditions were perfect for Cross Country running, cool and calm with some muddy terrain to avoid (or not).  We had a team of fantastic helpers with staff and students pitching in to ensure our 300 odd participants had an enjoyable yet safe experience. Some students eagerly anticipate the cross country; a chance to challenge themselves against other runners and demonstrate their talent. For some, cross country is seen as something to avoid.

However, yesterday proved to be an event that catered for not only competitive runners, but also students that wanted to have a more social experience. With music, and coloured house outfits to boot it was a fun way to come together as a school and enjoy moving!! Well done to students who demonstrated rangatiratanga and challenged themselves by pushing beyond their comfort zones.

For those interested in competing in the Canterbury Secondary Schools’ Cross-country event held at Ascot Park on the 1st June, please contact Mrs Burson if you haven’t already to register your interest.
