Environmental Committee 2019

Molly Smeale —

Christchurch Girls’ High School Environmental Committee commenced at the start of this year and has been a great success.

This year our environmental prefect, Eva Watson, rebooted an Environmental Committee at Christchurch Girls' High School.

We have worked towards creating a cleaner school environment and helping students understand the pressing issue of climate change. We aimed to teach students how we can reduce our carbon footprint as well, and to also encourage the wider school community to do the same. Several of the members of the Christchurch Girls' High School Environmental Committee helped organise the three School Strikes for Climate Action which were held in Christchurch this year. Those students aimed to help other students understand the importance and relevance of these strikes so if they chose to strike they would have a comprehensive understanding of what they were striking for.
