The final inter-schools’ running event of the winter calendar took place on Saturday 15th June with the national secondary schools’ cross country event - held at Ascot Park, Christchurch.

We had a team of 5 runners in both Year 9, and in the Senior Girls grade. Thankfully the rain cleared early in the morning, leaving a slightly muddy course adding to the technical challenge. A very big congratulations to Tayla Cox who placed 2nd in the Year 9 Girls age group, and Kate Currie who placed 9th in the Senior Girls category. This is a fantastic achievement.

The regional relays on Sunday provided three of our runners (Tayla Cox, Kate Currie, and Sofie Carpenter) the opportunity to represent the Canterbury region. Well done to Tayla who was a part of the Canterbury Year 9 A team - placing 2nd province in New Zealand. Kate Currie was in the Canterbury Senior Girls A team - also placing 2nd.

The next event for our distance runners to focus on will be the national road race championships which is part of the athletics championships. This year this is being held in Timaru over the 6th-8th December.

Please indicate your interest in this event to myself or Mrs Sue Boyd so we can start planning early.
