Year 12 Tourism Field Trip

CGHS —

On Friday 18th May the two Year 12 Tourism classes travelled to Akaroa for a one-day trip to see the popular tourist destination on our doorstep – Akaroa. Along the way we stopped at Little River to have a look at the Silo Motels and their environmentally friendly set up.

Akaroa is a unique tourist destination offering an insight into how a small peninsula town has become a hub for tourist activities and a key terminal for cruise ships. The students will look at different types of tourist accommodation, attractions and activities

During the day the classes walked along Rue Lavaud and Beach Road looking at the different eateries and attractions that were available. The girls experienced a trip on the Black Cat and managed to catch glimpses of the smallest species of dolphin – Hector Dolphins, one even had a calf.

The day ended with the girls looking through the various rooms available at the Akaroa Village Inn. They also heard about the positive and negative impacts the cruise ships were having on the local community.
