Secondary School Rowing Nationals
On 24 March a strong team of 34 rowers headed North to compete at Maadi - the Secondary School Rowing Nationals.
We stayed in Te Awamutu and travelled 25min to Lake Karapiro to compete each day. The competing schools took part in the traditional parade down the main street of Cambridge on Sunday. There was a lot of excitement from everyone for the following week's racing.
Heats were raced on Monday and Tuesday and repechages on Wednesday. ALL rowers made at least one A final race which is an absolutely fantastic effort by the team. There was great racing throughout the week with all coming off the water positive from their races regardless of where they placed.
We came home with two medals:
U16 Coxed Four - Bronze
- Frankie Leggett
- Elsie Loe
- Harriet Matthews
- Kate Ryall
- Coxswain Sophie Bohm
U17 Coxless Pair - Silver
- Isabelle Williamson
- Katie Gardner
The team represented Christchurch Girls' High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora proudly. A HUGE thank you to the coaches Gary Hay, Joe Barclay and Alice Drummond who travelled and the parent helpers, Katrina Joseph and Nikki Cochrane for all of your organisation and help.
