Months of hard work and dedication have paid off for one of our Christchurch Girls' High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora choirs, Cantrices, as they have been selected to compete in the national finale of The Big Sing, an annual choral competition run by the New Zealand Choral Federation.

Recently, Cantrices performed with other school choirs from across the region in the Canterbury/West Coast regional festival and was awarded "Outstanding Recital Performance by an Upper Voice Choir" and "Outstanding Performance of Contemporary Art Music" for their efforts. Hundreds of choirs from across the country participated in nine different regional festivals, with the top 20 from across New Zealand being chosen for the national finale. 

After delays due to both Covid and the earthquake, the national finale of The Big Sing will be held in Christchurch this year for the first time in 15 years. Our singers are looking forward to welcoming their peers from the rest of the country back into the Town Hall. 

The Big Sing Finale will run from August 25-27 in the Christchurch Town Hall. Tickets will be available through Ticketek closer to the time.
