Thank you to all of our parents and whanau that joined us at the recent Academic assembly.

We appreciate your support at these events.  In 2023, Christchurch Girls’ High School/ Te Kura o Hine Waiora continued its tradition of academic excellence. A remarkable number of our ākonga achieved Academic Merit and Colours based on their outstanding achievement at Level 1 and Level 2 NCEA.

The assembly also recognised the exceptional achievements of three of our 2023 Year 13 students who are the recipients of the Bickerton-Widdowson award. This award acknowledges high achievement at NCEA Level 3 and New Zealand Scholarship. The award comes from the Bickerton-Widdowson Trust which is administered by Christchurch schools and stipulates that the students must also be enrolled at Canterbury University.

We also had the privilege of hearing from Jessica Cotton, an old girl and past recipient of the Bickerton Widdowson award. Jess is now in her final year of Engineering and is the President of ‘Woman in Engineering’. This year’s winners of the award and the Degrees that the students have decided to pursue at Canterbury University are: 

• Holly Hance: Holly is studying Engineering and aims to specialise in mechanical engineering.
• Mana Hiramoto: Mana is studying a Bachelor of Digital Screens with a minor in Spanish.
• Alexandria Sidwell: Alex is studying a Bachelor of Engineering with honours.
