CGHS 1st XI Cricket Team National Champions

CGHS —

The CGHS 1st XI Cricket team travelled to Palmerston North in early December to participate in the Gillette Venus Cup – the National Secondary Schoolgirls Twenty20 Cricket Tournament.

In pool play our CGHS team played each of the other regional qualifiers – St Matthew’s Collegiate, St Hilda’s Collegiate, Tauranga Girls' High, Hutt Valley High and Takapuna Grammar – and won each match. On Sunday 13 December they faced St Matthew’s Collegiate in the final. CGHS had a great game, getting all St Matthew’s wickets for 66 runs and then reaching 68/1 in 11.1 overs. Casey Liddington batted 32 not out, and Kate Hastings took 6 wickets for 13 runs! Our team won by 9 wickets and won the 2020 Gillette Venus Cup – National Champions! Maggie Martin was the highest wicket taker for the tournament, taking 12 wickets; Casey Liddington was the highest run scorer, soring 225 runs over the tournament.

Congratulations to the team – Captain: Gracie Ansell, and Libby Stead, Casey Liddington, Petra Jack, Sophie Sinclair, Georgia Edge, Kate Hastings, Joey Hull, Maggie Martin, Abby McKissock, Lila Bradley, Estella Wallace and Maddie Iro. The team were supported by manager Amanda Jack and coach Hannah Beatson; huge thanks to these two ladies. The win was well deserved by the team who had worked hard, throughout a challenging 2020, both on and off the field.
