Whanau Prefect Overview 2019

Olivia McIntyre —

Kia ora, This year I have had the honour to have the role of the Whanau Prefect in 2019.

This role for me was something throughout my years I really strived for and with a couple of obstacles in the way I am very lucky that Christchurch Girls' High School had given me this opportunity. My Whanau is something so special to me and Te Kura o Hine Waiora is a School that has helped myself and all other Maori students express their culture with no judgement and also has given support to Maori Students.. After 5 years at Christchurch Girls' High School I have built so many quality relationships with Friends, Coaches, Teachers and All other Staff. I am so lucky to have received support throughout my years and I am so grateful for myself leaving and knowing that Maori Students have support in all areas. There are so many times where I had found myself with no support and Christchurch Girls' High School had given me no only and education but much more.

This year has been so busy for all of our Whanau students. With Wakanda Basketball being a success, maybe not winning but giving every game a go! Kapa haka had the pleasure to welcome our new principal Mrs O'Neill to Te Kura o Hine Waiora. Also our 2 junior speakers at Manu Korero this year. Out whanau form class is another big part of 2019! Having students of all cultures and senior year groups share their morning together and get to know each other throughout the year. Mrs Peawini and Whaea Adrienne have helped all of us Maori and Pasifika girls this year and I thank them very much. They have provided so many opportunities for us all.

Overall, My year as Whanau Prefect has been full of many successes for Maori students and I am so proud to have been able to represent them this year.
