Cricket 2020

Gracie Ansell —

Cricket for 2020 has been very unusual with uncertainty if the season would continue to go ahead.

With the impact of COVID and the nation going into lockdown, Term 1’s social cricket competition and qualifying tournament for the 1st XI was unable to go ahead during the normal time period.

Unfortunately for the social competition, it was cancelled completely. Thankfully for the 1st XI, their qualifying tournament was moved to Term 4. On the 28th and 29th October the 1st XI team competed in the Gillette Venus Qualifying tournament, where they played 2 round robin games and they successfully won, both sending them into the final.

The team played Forward Foundation (mixed schools' team) in the final match coming away with a win. In mid-December, they will be heading up to Palmerston North to compete against the top schools around New Zealand in the sports National Tournament. The team previously has done extremely well at Nationals and will be hoping to continue this in the upcoming tournament.

Earlier in the year the Team also had the privilege of attending the prestigious Willows cricket ground to play against St Hilda’s Collegiate School. This was a real honour for the team to be invited back to play on the ground and to come away with the win was an excellent result for the girls.

Even though it was a bumpy season the girls were able to get back into and we wish the girls all the best for their National Tournament and are very excited about what the team will achieve in the future.
