Japanese cultural experience

Megan Kong —

International students showcase some of their culture.

This week we were lucky to have one of our visiting International students from Japan , Rio Suzuki, perform a traditional Japanese dance or Nihon Buyo for our students in assembly. Rio has been practising this form of dance since she was 2 years old, and wore a traditional Kimono Yukata. In this dance the dancer moves around the stage with sliding feet and quiet movements to the accompaniment of solemn songs and music.

After her performance Rio helped some of our students to dress in the beautiful Kimono Yukata. Our librarians and other international students helped by making an amazing display about Japan and Japanese culture and having a fun event to teach students how to use Chopsticks.

Thank you so much Rio, we are lucky to have this amazing experience at our school.
