AUDITION INFORMATION - The Addams Family Musical is being put on by Christchurch Boys' High School (with assistance from Christchurch Girls' High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora students) in 2023.

This is the first time in over 10 years the two schools have collaborated on a
performance of this size, and we are excited to get as many students involved as possible! 

If you want to be part of the show, you will need to commit to attending after school rehearsals at Christchurch Boys' High School throughout Term 1 and Term 2 (Mondays and Thursdays), as well as performances at the end of Term 2. Most importantly, you’ll need to be available on the following dates:

•  After school in Week 8 of Term 2 for technical rehearsals (12-18 June)
•  After school and in the evening in Week 9 of Term 2 for rehearsals and performances (including the evening of Saturday 24 June)

A full rehearsal schedule will be available at auditions for you to check your availability. 

Auditions are open to all year levels, including incoming Year 9s. For Christchurch Girls' High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora students, auditions will take place at the following times:

•  Tuesday 14 February from 3:10pm
•  Wednesday 15 February from 2:40pm
•  You may be asked to attend a callback after school on Thursday 16 February (starting at around 3:15pm).

LEAD ROLES

We are casting for the following characters:

•  ROLE                      Morticia Addams
•  VOCAL RANGE     Mezzo/alto G3 – Bb5
•  DESCRIPTION       The mother of the Addams Family, Morticia puts family and tradition above all else. She is confident and witty.  Morticia will need the ability to dance or move in rhythm.

• ROLE                   Wednesday Addams
• VOCAL RANGE   Mezzo A3 – E5
• DESCRIPTION     Strong-willed eldest daughter who falls in love with a “normal” boy, much to her family’s surprise.  Strong belt required.

• ROLE                     Grandma Addams
• VOCAL RANGE    Soprano/mezzo
• DESCRIPTION      Grandma dispenses quirky wisdom and questionable potions. She needs strong comic timing and physicality. 

• ROLE                     Alice Beineke
  
• VOCAL RANGE    Soprano
• DESCRIPTION      The mother of Lucas, Wednesday’s new boyfriend. Alice learns to release her wild side while staying with the family. Strong belt and comic acting skills needed.

Chorus Roles

All chorus members will play the ghostly ancestors of the Addams Family.  Ability to dance/move and sing in harmony will be required for all chorus members. 

You may audition for a lead role, a chorus part or both. If you audition for a lead but are unsuccessful, it is likely you’ll be offered a role in the chorus.

Audition Requirements

At your audition, you will need to:

• Sing a prepared song (up to 1 minute long)
• Do some brief singing exercises to check your vocal range and ability to harmonise
• Read a short piece of script (if auditioning for a lead role)
