South Island Ballet Awards

CGHS —

Ella Teear (Year 10) and Poppie-Belle Hollander (Year 9) competed in the South Island Ballet Awards at the Isaac Theatre Royal.

The South Island Ballet Awards is run biannually and judged by a panel of international adjudicators. It is run on 30 June and 1 July over three full sessions and performers are judged on: a technical class, set solo variation and own choice solo. It is an elimination process until they reach the finals.

Poppie-Belle danced in the Junior section and made it to the finals. She received a ballet scholarship and has been asked to submit a DVD of her work for the Houston Ballet Summer Program next year.

Ella was chosen as a semi-finalist in the Senior section, performing Prelude from Les Sylphides along with her solo variation and contemporary solo. Ella dances at Levings School of Dance and is taught ballet by Avril Levings. Ella is working hard as a soloist and in dance teams at Levings and is also preparing to compete in Australia in January 2019 at the Showcase competitions.
