Crest
The original school crest is displayed in the Atrium adjoining the Performing Arts Centre.
This crest belonged to Canterbury University College, which governed the school from 1877 to 1949. The design features an angel set against a background of stars, symbolising the pursuit of knowledge and heavenly wisdom under the guidance of God. The crest was presented to the school by the longest-serving Lady Principal, Miss Mary Victoria Gibson.
The school crest currently worn on the blazer pocket and inscribed into the marble wall incorporates several significant symbols: the plough and fleece, representing Canterbury; the stole, symbolising Christianity; and the star, representing knowledge. This crest has represented the school since 1949.
The words beneath the crest, Sapientia et Veritas, translate to “Wisdom and Truth.”
In 2024, the school crest was updated to include Te Kura o Hine Waiora beneath the school name.
