Year 12 and 13 Academic Assemblies And Bickerton-Widdowson Scholarships

CGHS Publications —

This year we have had to award our Academic Merit and Colours at year level assemblies due to the Covis-19 restrictions.

It was unfortunate that parents and whānau were unable to attend and celebrate our students' successes, but as a school we are pleased that we have finally had a chance to acknowledge their outstanding effort and achievements. In 2019, Christchurch Girls’ High School/ Te Kura o Hine Waiora saw an outstanding number of our students awarded Academic Merit and Colours based on their achievement at Level 1 and Level 2 NCEA. We had well over 100 students receive either Academic colours or Academic Merit.

As part of the Year 13 assembly we also announced the 2019 Year 13 student recipients of the Bickerton-Widdowson award, which recognises high achievement at NCEA Level 3 and New Zealand Scholarship. The award comes from the Bickerton-Widdowson Trust which is administered by Christchurch schools and stipulates that the students must also be enrolled at Canterbury University.

This year’s winners of the award and the degrees that they have decided to pursue at Canterbury University are:

  • Charlotte Partington, who is studying Financial Engineering, which is a combination of Economics, Mathematics and Computer Science
  • Sarah Bates, who is studying towards a Bachelor of Commerce
  • Cindy Kuang, who has decided to pursue a degree in Law and Commerce
  • Rhiannon Hewett, who has been given direct entry into second year Physics, and is studying towards a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Astronomy.

The school would like to congratulate all students listed below on their success.
