Sports Update

Robin Brown, Sport Coordinator —

It has been great to hear of many CGHS athletes remaining positive and continuing to train and maintain their fitness in their own ‘bubbles’. Well done to all!

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic sport has been severely affected. There was a sudden end to summer sport; teams and individuals did not get to ‘finish off’ the season as local sport competitions were cancelled, and South Island and Nationals events were cancelled or suspended. Many of our top teams and athletes were affected by this, however it has been great to hear of many CGHS athletes remaining positive and continuing to train and maintain their fitness in their own ‘bubbles’. Well done to all!

Moving into the winter season, some of our sports held trials prior to the lockdown however many did not. Some of these teams are meeting by zoom or by other means, working on team bonding remotely and carrying out team fitness activities in their own spaces. When it is known if a winter sports season is likely, sign ups and trials will be held. Note - most contact sports will not proceed with competition until Alert Level 1!

In the meantime, continue to clock up and record those kilometres for the CGHS/CBHS Challenge! The Government has outlined activities which are acceptable at the different Alert Levels.
