Junior Theatresports Success
The Junior Theatresports team performed with courage, flair and talent in the recent final of the Court Theatre Junior Competition.
Making the junior final was an amazing achievement for our team of Ashlyn Morrison, Hazel Amos, Isabella Kerr, Medha Baadkar, Evie Ryan and their coach, Emily McVicar.
During the blind round, they were given a challenging game, "Stage Directions", and embraced this with enthusiasm and energy - literally throwing themselves in the deep end, with a scene centred on fishing for great white sharks! In the choice round, the unfortunate characters all met an entertaining end through a mixture of potions, treachery, science, and slips.
Always keen to take risks and try new things, the team selected a new and daring game: "Song Cue" for the final round. This game required the team to weave songs into their scene with a line of dialogue as their cue. With an airport setting, the team created hilarious songs on turbulence and a rap about being at the wrong gate. This scene was a hit, and the judges complimented their bravery and just how often they broke into song!
The competition was ferocious throughout, and the scores didn’t always favour our team. Despite the final points tally, as a group, they were the very definition of true success. Their consistent demonstration of our school values, especially whanaungatanga and rangatiratanga, throughout the competition impressed everyone.
All the performers should feel enormously proud of the scenes and characters they created.
You are an incredibly talented young group of performers with an impressive future of improvisation ahead of you! Ka rawe tō mahi!
