Culinary Studies - Level 2


Qualification: NCEA Level 2, Achievement Standards and Hospitality Industry Unit Standards.

Entry requirements: None. As this is a STAR funded course, international fee-paying students and exchange students are required to pay all costs related to this course.

Content/Skills: You will develop practical skills and a broad understanding of Hospitality and Nutrition. Topics covered include food safety, international foods, nutritional issues, food sustainability and barista skills.

Course Costs: Please be aware that this course has a 'take home' component. By selecting this course you are agreeing to meet full costs for materials that are required. These costs are $170.00 which covers the cost of all ingredients for practical lessons.

Students can select a maximum of 18 credits from the following standards:


2 Internal Achievement Standards worth 10 credits

1 External Achievement Standard (optional) worth 4 credits

 3 Internal Unit Standards worth 12 credits

Where does it lead? Culinary Studies at Level 3. Careers in Human Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Science, Sports and Exercise Nutrition. Careers in the Hospitality Industry - Cookery; Chef in a Café, Restaurant, Hotel, Resort. Menu Design. Food and Beverage; Front of House Manager, Barista, Restaurant Manager. Careers in Management - Hotel Management, Food Service Management ,Business Management, Restaurant Owner, Human Resources, Conference and Banqueting Manager.
