Eco-Action Nursery Trust
For the last few weeks, the Eco-Action group has been hard at work repotting young native trees at the nursery getting them ready to be planted.
The Eco-Action Nursery Trust aims to revitalise the Red Zone with native plants to draw in more native wildlife such as birds and insects. They also aim to teach the schools involved about environmental restoration and protection.
The Eco-Action planting days are a Canterbury-wide event in which many schools from all around Christchurch and further come together to plant the trees they have been caring for in the Red Zone near New Brighton Beach.
On May 14th a total of nearly 5000 trees were planted in 2 hours and we are aiming to do the same this Sunday 18th June 10-12pm at 50 Atlantis Street. Bring your gummies and spade plus friends and family.
The other two planting dates for the year are 30th July and 3rd September.
We enjoy having new faces at our re-potting sessions on Fridays from 2.45pm till 3.45pm as well as getting to know our regular attendees. So we would love to see many more people joining our environmental journey. So far our group has planted 900 plants and have just another 100 to go.
Feel free to show up commitment-free and get stuck in! We have music and an awesome bunch of people as well as service hours available too.
Hope to see you all at the next Friday potting session!
