Cricket
Christchurch Girls' High School has had a very successful year of cricket. We started off the season winning our Canterbury qualifying tournament, which then qualified us for Nationals later in the year.
In the qualifying tournament we won all of our pool games convincingly and ended up in the final for the sixth year in a row, where we played Cashmere High School. At the beginning of December we competed in the Gillette Venus Cup which was held at Lincoln University. The first two days of the tournament were held at Burnside Park where we defeated Wairarapa college and then Tawa college. The second day was also held at Burnside Park where we beat Epsom, last year’s champions, and Tauranga Girls to secure our place in the final. On the final day we played at Lincoln University, where we competed against St Hildas in a tight well fought out final. They won the toss and batted first where they put up a score of 127 meaning that we were chasing 128 and sadly lost by 9 runs. We ended up 2nd in New Zealand and also managed to win the Team Spirit award for the 2nd time in a row.
We would like to thank Sporting Edge for sponsoring our team this season, Miss Beatson and Miss Williamson for putting in a lot of time and effort into coaching and managing us this season, and to Sarah our captain, for leading us to a second place win and the spirit of cricket award. We would lastly like to thank our parents for supporting us over our tournaments. We’ve had a very successful year and we can’t wait to see what next season brings.
