Principal's Message

Christine O'Neill, Principal —

Nau mai haere mai, talofa lava, mālō e lelei, kiorana, greetings parents and whanau

Last night was a wonderful night at the annual lipsync show. You will see some of the items below with more on our Facebook page /newsletter next week. The students worked incredibly hard to produce a series of stunning items. I was very impressed at the consistent quality across the Board and the staff item was a particular stand out! Most importantly everyone had a huge amount of fun and the event was fantastic for building school spirit and whanaungatanga (a sense of connectedness and family-ness). Congratulations to Mrs Peawini, Assistant Principal for overseeing the event and to our House prefects and wider school leaders and prefect team for a superb evening. We are looking forward to next year’s event!

Staff are also working on developing a strategic vision and plan for the school which has at its heart whanaungatanga (connected relationships), caring and nurturing (manaakitanga), valuing diversity and identity, and preparing our students for the future. We will be working towards to a fully embedded restorative culture which values a relational approach to problems and conflicts. It uses high accountability whereby our young people are supported by school and family to repair problems or harm when it occurs. Parents are involved as active participants in the process and our girls are equipped to leave school with an ability to conduct relationships in a way which will make them better parents, partners, colleagues and future leaders. We learn as adults too because conflict or harm is difficult for us all to manage and repair.

Events like last night are an important part of building that culture in the school.

Waiho I te toipoto
Kaua I te toiroa
Let us keep close together, not wide apart
