2019 Canterbury Schools' Litolff Cup

Jordy Taylor, Sports Prefect —

Last week on the 14th of August, Christchurch Girls’ High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora's cycling team had another outstanding performance at the 2019 Canterbury Schools Litolff Cup.

This event consisted of a 16km team time trial which both  our U16 team of Orla Fitzgerald, Paris Carrol, Claudia Wright and Brooke Keown and our U20 team of Olivia Kistra, Pixie Cockerill, Caitlin Jamieson and Meg Barnes competed in.

The teams raced exceptionally well in horrendous windy conditions and proved once again that Girls’ High is definitely a school to watch out for! Although it was very windy we were fortunate enough to have a tail wind for the first 8km of the team time trial, this meant our teams were able to set themselves up for the following 8km of strong winds while gaining as much of an advantage as possible, building up the correct speed.

We were lucky enough to come away with 1st place in the U16 grade with a time of 27:59:81, claiming the Amy Dawe Cup. Our U20 team had an amazing performance up against our biggest rivals Villa Maria College, these girls managed an outstanding 3rd place closely behind Lincoln High School (2nd) and Villa Maria College (1st).

This was an exceptional day of racing, considering the weather conditions the girls gave it 100% and I couldn’t be a prouder captain. I’m looking forward to tournament week as and the results the girls can come home with.
