Women Suffrage Week 2022

New Zealand became the first self-governing country in the world in which women had the right to vote in parliamentary elections. When Governor Glasgow signed the Electoral Bill on 19 September 1893, women had won the right to vote in New Zealand. We celebrated Women's Suffrage week in the library from 19 to 24 September 2022. Our librarians made an amazing display on women's equality in our school library. For more information about women's suffrage click on the link here:

Queen Elizabeth II Memorabilia

After the passing of Queen Elizabeth II last week it is interesting to think about all the changes she would have seen in her lifetime. As a woman in power I can only imagine the challenges she must have faced. Interestingly the second longest reigning monarch in England was Queen Victoria (63 years), and Elizabeth I was the ninth longest reigning monarch (44 years).

I imagine that many of us have some royal memorabilia from the long reign of Elizabeth II somewhere in our house. A quick hunt through cupboards and long forgotten boxes might unearth the most interesting of treasures.

I feel it is important for us to recognise and celebrate the long life of women like Queen Elizabeth II who can inspire us all to be the best that we can.
