North Canterbury Relay for Life

Annabelle Kelley —

This past weekend, on Saturday 1 April, over 20 Christchurch Girls' High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora students took part in the 2023 North Canterbury Relay for Life run by the North Canterbury Cancer Society.

This event took place at Dudley Park in Rangiora and ran from 10:00am till 10:00pm. Our amazing students took turns walking or running around the track in an effort to raise funds and awareness for those who are and have been affected by cancer and to show our support and honour survivors, families who have lost loved ones and those who are currently battling cancer.

With the help of our student's awesome fundraising efforts and commitment, we were collectively able to raise over $3000 for the North Canterbury Cancer Society.

As a way to fundraise on the day, we came up with the idea to hold a second-hand clothing stall with pieces donated by students, family, and friends, this was a great success and contributed to our total fundraising amount.

All of the students had an absolute blast of a time and met some incredible people along the way. For our year 13’s, this will be the last time they were able to represent Christchurch Girls' High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora, but they can always come back and take part in their own groups next year.

For our younger students, they are eager and are already looking forward to next year. A massive shout out to Tinesha Benson, Jess Shearer and Annabelle Kelley who played a big role in making this event possible and a huge mihi to them for all of the work they put in behind the scenes.

Thank you to all of the parents, friends and staff members who showed their support, we truly appreciate it!

And finally, a huge thank you to the outstanding staff and volunteers at the Cancer Society North Canterbury for making this day one our students won’t forget.
