CGHS Second In The South Island Secondary Schools Climbing Competition
Last week, a team of four students represented Christchurch Girls’ High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora in the South Island Secondary Schools Climbing Competition.
The event was based at the YMCA Adventure Center, which has a large indoor climbing wall. The girls had to attempt different climbs and were awarded points depending on how high they managed to climb before falling off. It was a particularly intense competition and the girls had to climb 24 different climbs each on the first day.
The team consisted of Ana-Laura Souza, Scarlett Kentish-Barnes, Madeline Sharpe and Pippa Geldermans. All four climbed incredibly well and worked together as a solid team, encouraging and supporting each other. There were 24 teams from all around the South Island and CGHS placed second in the girls’ division. This was a great result and showed the determination and teamwork of these four girls.
CGHS offers climbing as a Wednesday afternoon sport and if any girls would like to join this exciting sport, they should contact Mr Lewis.
