Cantrics - Big Sing

Jenny Morrison —

See the wonderful video of Christchurch Girls' High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora at the Big Sing.

On Friday 10 June, Cantrices performed at the Canterbury / West Coast regional festival of The Big Sing. They performed a set of two pieces, including a piece by New Zealand composer Tecwyn Ewans (The Lamb) and a work by Canadian composer Marie-Claire Saidon (Terre Neuve) and were awarded 'Outstanding Performance of Contemporary Art Music' and ' Outstanding Recital Performance by an Upper Voice Choir' for their efforts.

The festival was capped off with a gala concert Friday night and the opportunity to sing in a mass choir with the other Christchurch choirs.

The choir has worked incredibly hard over the past two terms and has shown tremendous resilience in the face of all of the Covid restrictions and disruptions that this year has brought. They have been rehearsing in masks outside for many of their rehearsals, with significant numbers of students isolating at various points.

Their fine performance was testament to the hard work, resilience, and commitment our students have shown.

Congratulations to Rosa Elliott as well for all of her fine work with the group this year.
