Ms Otway's Farewell Speech to Year 13

Sandy Otway —

In 2014 you came in to our old gym. Your parents were sprinkled amongst you or gathered at the back. You looked gorgeous. Excited, your uniforms and shoes were immaculate even if they were a bit too big.

Hair securely held in place, not a scratch of make up or jewellery to be seen. Your parents looked very proud, and quite frankly more nervous than you did.

Mrs Duthie was new to the school too. She welcomed you and you were warned the next five years would fly by….. and they have. You are still gorgeous, your shoes, not so much. Hair not so securely fasten back, face not always makeup free and jewellery does appear briefly from time to time. Uniforms have been grown into, and I can honestly say that throughout your journey you have been a group of caring, hardworking, successful and respectful young women. Each year I have congratulated you on your integrity, diligence and behaviour. I am happy to be able to say the same to you today.

That doesn’t mean there hasn’t been the odd hiccup, indiscretion or crisis. I am sure Stephanie, June and Nadia will ‘spill the tea’ about them. There have been disagreements, disappointment, detentions, and tears. Sometimes more tears, and not just from me but you always listened, apologized and gracefully moved on. Over and over I have heard wonderful things about you as a cohort from the staff and the wider school community and I proudly basked in the glory of being your Dean. Thank you for your contribution to CGHS.

Peer Support, Prefect-ships, Committees, Reader Writers, Blood Donations, Fundraising, Sports achievements and participation, Peer teaching, Teacher assistance, Coaching, Directing, Performance and Leadership. You have been outstanding role models and we are very grateful for everything you have contributed to the school.

Prank day went well, I loved the Dog on the roof, shame he took a tumble, the shark in the lake, late start pd 3 and your colourful outfits this term. You have ended like you started, exciting, refreshing and vibrant.

So now it is time to leave, you are ready and I know you won’t miss:

· Uniform inspection

· Sitting on the floor for assembly

· Wet lunch hours

But you will miss:

· Grundy runs

· Pink day

· Lip Sync

· Ducklings in the spring

· And each other

And we will miss you. Thanks to all of you. Class of 2018 we love you. See ya girlfriend.
