Eco Action Nursery Trust Activities

Jason Aaron, HoD Science —

On Sunday 30th August the CGHS Eco Action Nursery Trust group helped plant 1100 tussock grasses at the Chimera Crescent site in the Red Zone near QEII Park.

It was a beautiful warm and sunny morning and the girls did a great job planting the tussock grass, as well as carrying out quality control and helping to tidy up once the planting was finished. This was the last planned planting of the 2020 year, and it was encouraging to see that the trees planted earlier in the year were surviving and starting to grow.

Last Friday after school the same group volunteered at the CGHS nursery, this time replanting a range of native species from root training pots in to larger pots. 22 students and 2 staff managed to repot 200 plants – these will now be left to grow bigger in their larger pots and should be ready to enter the Red Zone at a planting day in 2021. The girls hope to replant the remainder of the CGHS nursery by the end of Term 3.
