South Island Secondary Schools Cycling Championships
Sophie White - July 25, 2024
1st Day - Saturday Individual TT and Team TT.
Due to a late scratch, we were down to a time trial team of 3, we needed 5 so we joined up with Rolleston and Ashburton College. These students made the Team Time Trial possible for our Christchurch Girls' High School | Te Kura o Hine Waiora to field a team.
Our Year 9 rider Aimee with Eliza and Jesse from the other schools showed an amazing amount of inclusivity and leadership for our courageous first year riders Stella and Chloe. Everyone learned heaps, and the students placed 4th in the U20 girls section.
Results Individual TT:
Aimee Free U15 2nd
Stella Clyne U17 10th
Chloe Manson U20 15th
2nd Day - Road Race
Aimee Free U15 2nd
The U15 girls race saw another battle with Aimee's main SMC rival. Aimee worked very hard all race, often on the front. Aimee was able to jump and chase down many attacks apart from the last decisive move. Aimee rode a smart race, riding away from the main peloton to finish solo, winning the silver medal.
Aimee is a rider who shows grit, resilience and determination.
It was a great weekend, always a supportive and fun atmosphere. Super proud of all these Christchurch Girls' High School | Te Kura o Hine Waiora students, lots of learning and personal success!
