Jorja Miller – Flourishing on the Field

Robin Brown —

Former pupil Jorja Miller features in this month’s Latitude magazine.

Twenty-year-old Jorja is making her mark on the Sevens scene since leaving Christchurch Girls’ High School/ Te Kura o Hine Waiora at the end of 2021.

Jorja is now a member of the successful Black Ferns Sevens team which, this weekend, takes part in the Grand Final of the World Series Sevens in Madrid (31 May – 2 June). The Black Ferns team is currently leading the series after wins in Vancouver, Singapore, Hong Kong and Los Angeles. To date Jorja has scored 21 tries in the series and she was named HSBC Sport Player of the Final in the Singapore event. She definitely is a star of the team and has shown maturity well beyond her years.

After Madrid, the next goal for Jorja is to make the Black Ferns Sevens team for the Paris Olympics, where the team is set on replicating their Gold medal win at the Tokyo Olympics.  While at Christchurch Girls’ High School/ Te Kura o Hine Waiora, Jorja participated in a range of sports, however rugby 15’s and sevens were her main focus. Out of school Jorja kept up her love of highland dancing and competed nationally through her teenage years, she confirms this sport has transferable skills helping her footwork, agility and strength among other aspects.

We look forward to watching Jorja this weekend in Madrid wearing her number 83 top, then hopefully in Paris in a few months time!
