Aria Carroll, Year 12

On Saturday and Sunday, a number of CGHS students attended the Christchurch Climate Challenge Conference at the University of Canterbury. The weekend was full of fantastic speakers including Chloe Swarbrick, politician and entrepreneur and Dr Deidre Hart as well as workshops discussing everything about the climate from the Politics for Change to Overcoming Climate Anxiety. It was a great opportunity to develop inter-year relations with the CGHS students who attended and further inter-school relations Christchurch school students.

It was a stimulating weekend, hearing from incredible speakers and experiencing great workshops that allowed me to flourish in an environment full of ideas and unlimited creativity. I enjoyed being able to catch up with my fellow BLAKE Inspire candidates and update everyone on my action plan. What I found exciting was that a St Andrew’s College student heard about my plastic to cornstarch bin liner initiative and wanted to get in contact with me to discuss implementing the plan in her school, which is an opportunity I jumped on!

It was such a perfect weekend, spending time with like-minded students all filled with motivation to change the world and working in groups with strangers who have similar or completely opposite personalities and skills to brainstorm even more action plans to combat climate change.
